TOUCH AFRICA organises internships at any time of the year here in Kenya

WORK

TOUCH AFRICA welcomes people with or without a prescribed profession.

Non-Prrofessionals

Volunteers without a profession are asked to inform us by email about their hobbies and what they would like to do while here, for example:

  • Working with children.
  • Volunteering in a children orphanages.
  • Working in a hospital..
  • Volunteering in a community project.
  • Organising sports for different groups
  • Helping out in famine /hunger areas.

Professionals

Professionals are asked to send us a detailed copy of their curriculum vitae and their preferred areas of their volunteering. We will contact institutions/organizations that have the kind of work that they want and we will get back to them with the full information .

For example; a nurse who wants to work with HIV/AIDS-positive patients. We look for such an institution (if possible, one of our partner institutions), and make all the arrangements.

ACCOMMODATION

During the internship periods, TOUCH AFRICA will billet interns with selected families near the institution, place or organization where the intern is working/volunteering.

We select families with a good social trend /record, and train them on living with other people from other cultures.

This is a major policy for TOUCH AFRICA, through which our volunteers/interns are able to have firsthand experience on basic living cultures of standard African families.

We supervise the families on a regular basis; if an intern is uncomfortable we can change him/her to another family.

FOOD

We pay the families to provide all the basic meals to the interns. If they are not providing good food, then we give them a menu to follow. We ensure a balanced diet in all the meals.

CERTIFICATION

After a full internship, which is at least two weeks, TOUCH AFRICA will prepare for you an international volunteer/internship certificate.

This states:

  • What you did
  • Where you did your internship
  • The duration of the internship.
  • Direct and indirect benefits to the institution/organization and the community at large.

Owing to the large number of certificates and recommendations we prepare, this document is sent to you later by post to your mailing address.

COSTS

Our registration fee is US 280$. This covers food and accommodation for the first two weeks. If possible it can cover part of the materials like stationery, working gloves, masks, etc .

Thereafter there is an additional US 150$ per week for all your intended stay.

We plan and budget for the cheapest yet most comfortable food and accommodation for our interns. This is a major policy that led towards our formation. We believe in giving everyone a chance to volunteer and participate here in Africa by providing the cheapest yet most comfortable opportunities. This fights a common stereotype here at home that people from the western countries are all rich and can afford expensive trips to Africa.

Transport

Daily transport to the working areas are covered by the interns themselves; they are extremely cheap. The most expensive you can pay is 1$ per day. An additional 15$ will be required to be picked from the airport by taxi.

Transport for any extra-curricular activity during the internship is covered by the interns themselves.

Health

Please contact your local travel doctor/clinic for more information on health issues and required inoculations, and ensure you get a malaria and yellow fever medication.

Please carry a portable mosquito net, sunscreen for the light skinned.
