FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1 Will I be safe as a white person?
Kenya has received a number of visitors over the years from the western countries. The communities we serve have had a good history/track record of hospitality to white people. You will be free to move around on your own without a problem. Like in any other place we have safe and unsafe hours. You have to be in the house at late by 9.00 pm if you intend to go for a late night out then inform your host family or work supervisor and they will allocate someone to go with you.
While in the city of Nairobi a local volunteer will be able to take you round to the shops, email and bank.

2. What kind of house will I live in?
We put all our volunteers/visitors in selected host families in the communities they will work in. these houses have basic amenities which include running water and electricity.
Two volunteers e.g. a couple, are put in the same room and share a bed. If volunteers come as a group then they will be put in separate houses in the same locality and will frequently meet at a central point to compare their experiences.

3 What is the name of the host family?
As volunteers visits the same locality; we continually change the host families. Its is very hard to give the name of the host family to a prospective volunteer as sometime we are forced to change host families at the last minute due to the following reasons.
 Host family moving locations without prior notice.
 Sudden travelling plans.
 Sudden important visitors to the families’ e.g. relatives
 Health emergencies.

4. What kinds of gifts do I bring to the host family?
Host families will appreciate any kind of gifts that you will afford. These will range from
 Clothes of any size
 Toys
 Electronics e.g Discmans, ipods, walkmans, radios
 Shoes of any sizes
 School bags, books, watches, picture frames etc
We say clothes etc of any sizes because we keep on changing families and we don’t want to limit your donations to a certain size; even if the gifts don’t fit them in size they will be able to give to a person/relative of their choice.

8. Will there be other volunteers while am at the project?
Most of our volunteer placements are general thus they don’t have start dates; volunteers come randomly as per the date of the available flight and maybe the leave from work or school;
This makes our programm attractive and gives ample options for the volunteers to plan themselves;
I
t is thus not necessary that you will find other volunteers at your specific project that you are working at; you may arrive to meet another volunteer who is just leaving or about to leave;
You may also arrive and meet many volunteers at one place at a time though we highly discourage that as it limits contacts with members of the community making it hard for the visitors to learn the culture of that community. Many volunteers at one time reduce the impact per person as there are cases of duplication of duties.
We only encourage many volunteers at one time in times of medical and community camps as the work is planned and available for all these volunteers.
However you will meet at one point in your stay with other volunteers whom we have put in the same area and maybe working at a different project and share experiences;
